Is foreign outsourcing of American jobs by American Companies immoral? I Say YES
Lawmakers in more than 25 states and in the United States Congress have identified foreign outsourcing as a threat to US employment and prosperity. Legislators must ban federal or state contracts with companies that would outsource jobs to foreign countries.
If no action is taking, US companies will continue to fire American workers in significant numbers and replacing them with foreign workers in low-wage countries such as India, China and Eastern Europe.
Of course, outsourcing is nothing new. The US and State governments and American Corporations have been outsourcing domestically for decades such services as data base management, janitorial services and payroll. The recent increase in foreign outsourcing in which US companies buy services from foreign-based providers has been make increasingly cost effective due to the personal computer and the Internet.
According to the data from several experts, over one third of the world trade growth has been achieved by means of foreign outsourcing to other countries. This has caused the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs in the United States and has had a major effect on the US Economy. Foreign outsourcing has changed the demand for skilled and unskilled labor and altered the structure of wages in the United States. Foreign outsourcing sends production to countries where labor costs are lower than in the US.
As a professional web designer, I have seen many American businesses outsource their web projects to foreign countries. American businesses fail to realize that they are spending their money overseas and not supporting the US economy. They are causing American workers to lose their jobs.

My husband & I both lost our jobs to outsourcing we worked for Ford Motor Credit..thousands of jobs went to India,Panama, etc in the last few years, this is crazy..we need to let America know by getting this information broadcast on major TV programs like Dateline or 60 minutes or Oprah or all of them..there are hundreds of major companies that do this and it is why our country is going down the drain..it is sad ..because of the greed of executives to make more and more money yearly our American workers are losing their jobs and medical benefits..it won’t be long before we will be a third world country if something isnt done soon…

Great information! I’ve been looking for something like this for a while now. Thanks!
Ok so I know first hand that the loss of my job at an “American” company (headquartered in NYC for over 100 years) was to be expected. The job went to HP (an “American” company, using employees from all over the world, India, Costa Rica, Canada)
The fact is there is no such thing as a public company which is an American Company. Most have employees all over the world and the owners of their stock come from all corners of the earth. If quality services can be obtained from a third world country they have an obligation to their owners to find the best service possible at the lowest cost. Yes it sucks to be an overpaid American and it will really take some research to determine just what jobs will remain and what skills will be required. As we send all of these engineering jobs away we destroy the American middle class and further separate the rich from the poor leaving the bulk of jobs in the service sector and paying just enough for groceries and no health care.
Agree completely with Mike. Large “American” companies cloak outsourcing in terms like “Globalization”, load balancing, or “shifting left”. Moving the more routine development and manufacturing offshore allows more advanced engineering to be performed in the US. However, in reality, Engineering jobs in the US seem to be decreasing overall, with a significant increase in the portion being filled by foreign nationals. It’s obvious to those of us in the engineering community, but is not recognized widely (enough) by the general public.
Does anyone know of any organizations or lobbys to promote the health and growth of American Engineering?
Thanks for providing a forum on this important issue, even though I do not agree with your analysis. Even if it were true that economic wealth were shifting from a rich country to poor countries, I’m not sure how that would be immoral. But in any case, the statistics suggest it is likely that off-shore outsourcing leads to more jobs in the West, not fewer. Law Without Borders On the legal process outsourcing front, I’ve seen with my own eyes how off-shore legal outsourcing, especially high-end, legal services KPO (knowledge process outsourcing), creates more legal work in the West, as deals previously undone, and litigations previously settled (or never filed), due to excessive legal costs, are suddenly affordable. Affordability means more work for the Western lawyers involved in supervision, editing, negotiating, and/or appearing in court.
